Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a relatively fast track, but is probably one of the least challenging circuits on the F1 calendar. Situated in the middle of the St Lawrence River on a man-made island, the track was renamed from the Île Notre-Dame Circuit to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in honour of Canadian F1 Driver Gilles Villeneuve after his death in 1982. Having been removed from the Formula 1 calendar in 2009 Montreal’s return in to the schedule in 2010 means that F1 races will take place in North America once more. Undoubtedly the most famous section of the circuit that has close barriers is the wall on the outside of the final chicane where many drivers have crashed, nicknamed the ‘Wall of Champions’.
