Track History: Marina Bay Street Circuit (2008-)

Marina Bay played host to the first ever Formula 1 night race in 2008, as the Singapore Grand Prix ensured its place in F1 history. The race took place at night for commercial reasons, allowing day time viewing for European audiences. The illuminated track and Singapore Grand Prix itself was a major undertaking, but turned out to be quite a spectacle and definitely gave F1 fans a different viewing experience. The bumpy tack is closely walled and contains many ninety degree turns, which are typical of street circuits. Unfortunately the inaugural race has now been clouded in controversy following an incident involving the Renault F1 team in 2008.
