The current, much shorter Hockenheimring circuit was introduced in 2001 and is one of the flattest Grand Prix circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. The shortening of the track has meant that there are now more opportunities for overtaking manoeuvres in once of the easiest tests that Formula 1 drivers will face in 2010. The future of the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring remains uncertain due to licensing costs imposed by Formula 1 management and the state of Baden-Wurttemburg losing money. The last winner at the Hockenheimring was Lewis Hamilton in 2008, after Mark Webber won the German Grand Prix last year that was held at the Nurburgring.
