Schumacher's punishment
(5 posts) (4 voices)-
The fact he was penalised for offering the most exciting moment of the race is bad enough, but does the punishment fit the crime?
20 second penalties are given out to teams who look to achieve an advantage by cheating. Mercedes didn't cheat. The interpretation of a rule was open to discussion and Ferrari's view of it was accepted.
Should the stewards have simply put Alonso back into 6th and left Schumacher 7th? I know Toro Rosso will argue otherwise, but Mercedes didn't deliberately cheat.
What are your thoughts?

They didn't cheat as such, merely contravene a rule that hasn't been in place that long, and hasn't had a situation that has tested it.
20 second penalties go out to people who make mistakes that could cause safety issues. Racing under a safety car fits that bill, and overtaking constitutes racing. The punishment does fit the crime in this situation, but if it was for anyone else other than Schumacher, or the penalty being handed out by Hill, would we really be caring about it that much?

and about the last penality? Schumacher said: "We know certain drivers have certain views, and then there's Rubens. As far as I was concerned there was enough room for him to get through. But it's clear I wanted to make life for him as difficult as possible." and Rubens said: "It was a go-kart manoeuvre. If he wants to go to heaven before me he can; I don't want to go to heaven. His view is that I'm a big crier but I'll let the public say what they think.".
This was most unuseful and dangerous thing that i ever saw between they.

The incident on Sunday was ridiculously dangerous and Schumacher shouldn't just brush off putting other drivers' lives in jeopardy.
We all want to see competitive driving, but Schumacher always seems to go one step too far!

It was a piece of driving that has rightly been dealt with. At any of the previous tracks, Barrichello would've hit the wall. The fact there was no car exiting the pits is another miracle.
Without confidence or speed you are left with the other part of Michael Schumacher that made him famous; a cold hearted ruthless streak.
