I didn't find the race that thrilling to be honest.
If Vettel's exhaust didn't break he would have go on and won the race.
Lotus did superbly considering its their first race in 14 years and to finish with both cars is a remarkable achievement and could be signs to come as they was only around 2-3 seconds of the pace at the end of the race. Virgin & Hispania was both unlucky not having both of their cars finish but their new and operating on a restricted budget.
For all the hype that was made about Schumachers return made his return seem like he was a rookie in the mid-field group as their wasn't much meantioned about him all weekend, which is a suprise.
Felipe Massa had a great return to F1 after his horror crash in Hungary last year to get 2nd today.

I agree with you 100%. The most interesting thing about this race was Lotus's impressive start.

Ferrari are definitely the team to beat, with Red Bull primed to be their closest challengers. Shame there wasn't much actual racing, it could have done with a more exciting race. Hopefully Australia will offer more entertainment.
Lotus had a solid start, hopefully they'll start to challenge the mid-field as the season progresses.
Hamilton looked good, but Button isn't at one with his new team yet. Big improvement needed from him, and from Mercedes.

Mark Webber has got F1 spot on with his latest Quote ""Why do they keep dicking with it?"
He is right. What i think they should do is bring back re-fueling but the drivers have to start on a full tank of fuel and when it comes to the pit stops it will play a part in the strategy of the teams. Also keep the tyre rule for the top 10 drivers.
Anybody agree with my idea to re-spice F1?
Also if F1 dosen't change it rules soon it will become like NASCAR where you will have to wait for a crash to see some excitement in the race and F1 should not morph into NASCAR this way.

God that was the most boring race I've seen in YEARS.
I hope the FIA make changes.
Lotus did brilliantly, great to see Kovy with some fire in him and fighting hard. I'm more interested in the "B spec" Championship.

Yeah that race was less than thrilling. For me the most interesting point was Vettels radio communication that he doesn't have any power. And then to watch him slowly slide back through the pack. And if there is anything that I can't stand it's a Ferrari 1-2 ;)
But with the refueling ban the cars move like beach whales and the drivers can't pass because of it. Heck they can't pass because they have to take care of their tires because they are so heavy with fuel. And by the time they are light enough to pass the race is pretty much decided.
I give a tie for driver of the day between Vettel and Alonso. Fred Alonso jumped his team mate on the start to position himself for a win first time out for Ferrari. Best pass of the day, which isn't saying much. But Vettel for absolutely waving bye-bye to the field for what should have been an uncontested win. Though I hate to say this but at least his exhaust header broke and made the race interesting...in a bad way.
I think Michael did fine. Hasn't been in F1 for 3 years and he brought the car home in the points. He'll get better. Not WDC better but probably podium at some point. But Merc had better be willing to improve their car though.
Lotus for best new team...hands down. But of these new teams I wonder. At least Lotus is worthy of being the new Minardi but HRT and Virgin seem like they would be more at home in GP 2. Unlike the failed USF1 who were building their own car these guys were borrowing and still couldn't get it together. F1 is about points not good intentions. And if one of these wannabies is on track with 2 or 3 front runners coming up to lap and he blows an engine thus spaying oil all over the WDC leaders behind him it will be a train wreck. These guys should have taken more time.
And yes Webber is so right. The FIA needs to get it's fingers out of the F1 pudding. Let the teams figure out how to make the racing more interesting. They are the worlds most brilliant at what they do and will always outsmart the FIA's rule changes which inevitably results in ever more boring racing. I mean the FIA has been trying since the mid 90's I believe to slow the cars down by decreasing down force and they now have more down force than when down force regulations started.
Give up you fools. You're just irritating everyone.
You know what would be cool? A break away league where everyone could do what ever they wanted while protecting the drivers and fans. I'd love to see turbo V10's and 12's reving at 22K rpm. active suspension, variable geometry aerodynamics, mass dampers, front wheel limited slip differentials, left/right brake pedals and BIG FAT DUCTED FANS AT THE BACK OF THE CAR TO INCREASE GROUND EFFECT!
Think of it like bodybuilding. No one wants to go to the show where the bodybuilders are clean from performance enhancing drugs. We want to see the freaks! We want our Mclarens and Ferraris to do things that only Speed Racer could do in a cartoon.
C'mon...am I right?

Apparently Vettel's problem was a spark plug not the exhaust according to Red Bull which add to the their chances of losing the titles this year because of Renault power.
I've just read a article (www.worldcarfans.com) that says bernie has admitted the rules cannot be changed. That is complete and utter rubish as the qualifying rules was changed for a saturday & sunday aggregate time to the 3 stage format Formula 1 uses now. So for bernie to say that just dosen't hold any weight to it. If they haven't improved F1 by mid-season i'd predict the breakaway series idea will return and gather momentum through out and a better 2011 in a new series.
