How bad could it get for Button?

Jenson Button hasn't had the most amazing pre-season testing and to me he doesn't feel comfortable at McLaren.
I think he could really struggle in Bahrain.
Would you all agree that he could quite easily finish 8th behind the likes of Alonso, Schumacher, Vettel, Hamilton etc?

Its quite plausible that button could finish 8th, he has some stiff competition and I doubt he will be able to outperform Hamilton nearly enough to win another championship.
He does however have at least one thing going for him. He's notorious for his smooth driving style which is easy on the tyres, sometimes too easy (remember all the problems he had getting heat in the tyres last season).
Its important to take care of the tyres this season due to the lack of refuelling so that you can optimise your strategy. Aggressive drivers such as Hamilton may find it difficult at first to keep the degradation down. Bahrain is also a blisteringly hot track and so tyres are likely to fall off quicker. My personal predicted finish for Button in Bahrain: 6th, behind Alonso, Massa, Hamilton, Schumcher, Vettel and Webber (not necessarily in that order) Barrichello and Kobayashi are my outsiders to beat button.

Completely agree with Crocky that his smooth driving style helps him take care of the tyres and that due to the lack of refuelling that this will be more important than ever.
Am still confident that Button will put up a decent showing at Bahrain, and even though a podium finish may be beyond him, a good points finish in the 4th-5th position will represent a solid start to his title defence.
