Red Bull Gives You F1 Success
While Brawn got all the plaudits last year for their fairytale season, Red Bull were slightly short-changed. They, too, had an incredibly competitive season and ended by far the quickest team on the grid.
They went from a team without a single race victory, to winning six of last year’s events, and many felt they should have secured at least the Constructors’ Championship.
It has been well documented this winter that other teams have copied aspects of last year’s Red Bull car, designed by the brilliant Adrian Newey. That puts into perspective just how good they were last year.
They are the only front-runners lining up in Bahrain who have kept the same driver combination as last year, with the experienced Mark Webber and the extremely talented Sebastian Vettel.
Both drivers will be disappointed they didn’t get closer to Jenson Button last year, and will be desperate to make up for it this year. They are definitely title challengers, with many touting them as likely Constructors’ Championship winners.
However, while they have displayed good pace in testing, they have had reliability issues. Last year, Vettel may well have been World Champion had he not suffered numerous engine failures. Red Bull have to ensure they are finishing races.
Vettel finished second in Bahrain last year, a result that would be accepted by Christian Horner and his team, though the German himself will accept no less than first. He is a younger Michael Schumacher, and with the press in his country choosing to focus on the old-master instead of the younger star, he will be eager to prove a point.
Webber goes into this season on the back of his best season in F1. He won his first ever race last year at the Nurburgring, and repeated that success in Brazil. Now he has a taste for the top-step he won’t sit back and allow his younger team-mate to enjoy all the success.
Red Bull have two talented and committed drivers, coupled with a very good Team Principal and possibly the greatest car designer in the history of the sport. Should they not win a single race this year, it will be a gross underachievement.
They have the financial-clout to compete with the other big names, with every student in Europe supplying the team with funds through mixing their alcoholic beverages with the energy drink.
They are set-up perfectly to win this year and their low profile within the media might work for them as they won’t have the same pressure McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes will endure.
Should Ferrari falter, Red Bull are the best-placed team to capitalise this weekend. As long as their car makes it to the end of the Grand Prix, they will pick up quite a few points.

Adrian Newey’s a legend. Vettel’s one of my favourite drivers, but I’d love to see Webber up his game this season.
