Massa unhappy with collision as Hamilton brands race “shocking”
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa has once more hit out at Lewis Hamilton after the pair collided at the Japanese Grand Prix just two weeks after the pair were involved in an altercation in Singapore.
Hamilton and Massa were involved in another racing incident as the McLaren man closed the door on Massa as he attempted to pass, costing the Brazilian part of his front wing.
Neither driver was punished for the incident, with Hamilton going on to pass Massa later in the race to claim 5th while Massa ended up in 7th place.
Hamilton claimed after the race that he had failed to spot the Ferrari driver before the pair touched, but Massa refuted that claim, saying: “Hamilton didn’t see me? Well I saw him, there’s nothing much to say,” Massa told Rai.
“The Federation will take decisions, It always happens with me? Not only with me, with everyone else too. Even during yesterday’s qualifying session and in the last race.” He added.
Tempers flared between the two when Hamilton hit out at Massa after they collided at the Monaco Grand Prix earlier this season, while both men were forced into the pits during the Singapore Grand Prix after they came together in the night race, scuppering either driver’s chances of making the podium.
Hamilton meanwhile lamented another error strewn race which saw him miss out on challenging for victory just 24 hours after he missed out on the opportunity to claim his first pole position of the season.
A puncture to his right rear tyre held him back in the opening laps of the race while the collision with Massa left him complaining of a lack of downforce amidst fears he had damaged his front wing, although McLaren confirmed over the team radio that nothing was damaged.
”I had a bit of a shocking race to be honest – but Jenson [Button] did a fantastic job which is great for the team.” He commented.
“Congratulations to Sebastian [Vettel] too – we knew it was coming but he’s had a perfect season. Personally, I just need to keep my head up and keep working hard. I think we have a better car now – Jenson has just shown that with a remarkable race – but I just didn’t have any grip, I need to find some pace from somewhere.” He added.
