Massa fastest at Indian Grand Prix practice

Against the odds, Felipe Massa set the fastest time during the second Indian Grand Prix practice session this morning.

The Brazilian was 0.088 seconds quicker than World Champion Sebastian Vettel, while Massa’s Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso was third.

McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button were fourth and fifth respectively.

Hamilton was handed a three-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race though after he failed to slow down for yellow caution flags during the first practice session.

This was of course a significant talking points – Hamilton can now not be on pole position regardless of how well he does in qualifying tomorrow – although Massa’s improved pace had people talking too.

Speaking about the Ferrari pace in practice, Jenson Button said: “I genuinely think they are very fast. Whether they are that much faster I don’t know.”

“On my lap, I had traffic in the last sector plus a few other things and for my new tyre run I had a new set-up change which didn’t work for me.”

“When we went back for the long run, the car felt very good and I’m very happy with the pace.”

“There is a lot of dust but surprisingly there is quite a lot of grip out there.”
