Pole in Singapore means the German has now been on pole position 11 times this season on a weekend where he could win the 2011 Formula 1 title.

Q1
15:10: Ominous stuff for his rivals as Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel whisks through the start/finish line 0.6 seconds faster than anyone else.
15:14: Jenson Button has been on the radio to complain about some understeer. He returns to the pits before the team adjust his front wing to solve that problem.
15:21: Vitaly Petrov steals team-mate Bruno Senna’s 17th place before Senna takes it back immediately!
Q2
15:34: Button posts the fastest time before Vettel beats him by more than half a second to lead the way.
15:37: Red flags out and clock stopped after Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi crashes out after colliding with the wall.
15:48: Hamilton goes back to the pits with a punctured right rear, but holds onto a top 10 place.
Q3
1558: Lots of traffic round as Button leads out the field for Q3.
1602: Vettel goes fastest, a significant 0.428 ahead of Hamilton. Button is third with Webber fourth and Alonso fifth.
1606: McLaren fail to refuel Hamilton’s car in time for a second lap, his qualifying session is over.
16:11: Vettel takes pole position with team-mate Webber taking second for a Red Bull one-two. Button is third ahead of Hamilton in fourth.
