Senna ready to replace Heidfeld for Belgian Grand Prix
Renault driver Nick Heidfeld is set to be replaced by Bruno Senna for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.
The German started the 2011 season relatively well, securing a podium finish in Malaysia, but has suffered with poor form since.
Senna hasn’t driven in Formula 1 since last year when he drove for HRT and he will now have eight races to show what he can do alongside Vitaly Petrov.
BBC Formula 1 pundit Eddie Jordan was the man who broke the news on the BBC Sport website.
He said: “While Heidfeld is on a salary, Senna, Renault’s reserve driver, comes with several million pounds of sponsorship.”
“Heidfeld, a veteran of 10 years in F1, was chosen as his substitute because of the 34-year-old’s proven points scoring record. But after a podium in the second race of the season in Malaysia, he and the team have not been able to reach the same heights again.”
This certainly adds an extra bit of spice to this weekend’s Grand Prix.
As you can see from the countdown clock in the top right hand corner of the site, practice for the Belgian Grand Prix gets underway on Friday.
