Following speculation regarding his future, Michael Schumacher has insisted that he will be racing next season.

Formula1Fancast reported last week how the German was being urged to retire, but he has come back fighting.

The seven-time Formula 1 World champion said: “I’ll certainly be racing next year, that is definite.”

The 42-year-old has had a difficult time of it since returning to Formula 1 last year and many suggested that he could call time on his comeback.

These comments appear to pour cold water over such speculation though. However, it remains unclear whether he will continue driving beyond 2012.

Speaking about life after his contract with Mercedes expires, he said: “We will have to see how things develop and how much energy and fun is still there.”

As for the team’s chances of improving enough to be fighting for the championship next year, Schumacher expects improvement, but not too much.

He continued: “It would be presumptuous if one expects us to fight for the title next year, at the moment we are too far behind.”

As you can see from the countdown clock in the top right hand corner of the site, Schumacher will be in action again when practice for the Belgian Grand Prix gets underway on the 26th August 2011.
