Hamilton praises Pirelli; but isn’t so generous with Eddie Jordan
Lewis Hamilton has praised the effect that the new-for-2011 Pirelli tyres have had on formula 1 this season – but had some less than kind words for BBC pundit and former team boss Eddie Jordan.
Hamilton was speaking at the Formula One Teams’ Association’s Fan Forum at the McLaren Technology Centre ahead of the British Grand Prix later this month, and commented on a wide range of topics, included the tyres that have helped make races more entertaining this season along with the DRS moveable rear-wing system that has increased over-taking dramatically in 2011.
“I love the new tyres, I think Pirelli have some an amazing job,” said Hamilton.
“I wasn’t really sure if they were going to be any good because Bridgestone had been in F1 for so long and had so much experience. But Pirelli have come in and straight away they’ve lived up to people’s expectations, which is pretty impressive.
“I watched the replay (of the Schumacher move) and Eddie Jordan was talking on the BBC about it being a special manoeuvre! It shows how much he knows! – Lewis Hamilton
“KERS we’ve had before, so the DRS is probably the most unique part of the new rules for this year. It makes it easier to catch people up and then be in a position to overtake.” He added.
The 2008 world champion went on to insist that the over-taking aid didn’t make his job too easy, but did however reveal that he thought his manoeuvre on seven time world champion Michael Schumacher during the European Grand Prix was too easy – and took the opportunity to poke some fun at the out-spoken Jordan.
“I watched the replay (of the Schumacher move) and Eddie Jordan was talking on the BBC about it being a special manoeuvre! It shows how much he knows! Hamilton joked.
“It was good to hear him say something good about me.”
