Driver labelled ‘young Schumacher’
Mercedes boss Ross Brawn has revealed that Nico Rosberg reminds him of a young Michael Schumacher.
Rosberg and Scuhmacher are obviously working as a duo at the moment for the Mercedes team and Brawn also stated how he thinks the 26-year-old is possibly the toughest and most capable partner the German has had over the years.
Brawn has worked with Schumacher throughout his career of course, so he knows him well. Therefore, his comparisons between Rosberg and the seven-time World Champion are worth listening too.
Revealing his thoughts on Rosberg, the team boss said: “Sometimes it’s like the young Michael Schumacher is standing before me. He goes about his job with an incredible intensity, he has no emotional weaknesses and is incredibly talented.”
“Perhaps the situation would be a little easier for Michael if he had a team-mate who was not so incredibly strong.”
Rosberg is twelve points ahead of Schumacher in the driver standings after all and has enjoyed a more productive season for Mercedes. This isn’t something the German will be used too, but Brawn is pleased with the pairing, saying that “both can learn many things from each other.”
How long these two drive as a duo for Mercedes though is a different matter. Force India’s Paul Di Resta has been heavily linked as a replacement for Scuhmacher in 2012 and Brawn admits that he is rather uncertain on the future of his senior driver.
Speaking about Schumacher’s future, he said: “If he feels that he doesn’t want to do it anymore, then we need to talk about it. You can’t force somebody to do something. But we believe in him; he’s an important part of our team.”
F1FC View – The attention of this article shouldn’t be taken away from Brawn’s praise of Rosberg. He has done a decent job this year and this should be recognised. I would guess that driving in the same team as Schumacher has helped him push on too. He will have great respect for the man.
Rosberg seems like one of the good guys of Formula 1 too. On his Twitter page, he recently revealed: “Now I’m getting worried! Couldn’t find mobile for 30minutes.Found it inside my fridge.Put it there to open a bottle and forgot.” – He is good fun and has a massive future in the sport.
