had denied claims made by the press today that the he believes he has “no chance” of winning the next month.

Hamilton has endured a poor sequence of results in the last three races, picking up a total of eight points combined at the Monaco and Canadian Grand Prix, before appearing well off the pace of Red Bull and Ferrari in the .

Media sources quoted a despondent Hamilton as writing off his chances after his 4th place finish in Valencia for the next race at Silverstone as well as conceding defeat in the drivers’ championship to runaway leader Sebastian Vettel.

“I’m not looking forward to the race because when you go to Silverstone, the desire to win is even greater because it’s my home country,” said Hamilton.

“But we’re just not quick enough to win there. I think we’ll really struggle.”

The controversial hot-blown diffusers which pump hot exhaust gasses to the rear of the car even when drivers are off-throttle will be banned from the race at Silverstone in July, and Hamilton added that he believes the loss of the device will set back even further.

“I’m really not looking forward to it,” he commented after Sunday’s race. “Of course, I’m really looking forward to seeing the fans because they always put a spark in the weekend and make it that much brighter.”

“And I’ll be going there as prepared as I can, racing as fast as I can, but we’re not fast enough.”

“(In Valencia) it feels like we’ve taken a step back in terms of performance or the others have taken a step forward and with the regulations changing I personally think we’re going to take another step backwards.

“We’ll have to see how the ban affects us but I’m a little bit nervous about it. I think we might be affected more than the two teams ahead of us (Red Bull and Ferrari). It will be even worse for us. He added.

Hamilton sits 89 points behind championship leader Vettel with eight races gone as the German goes in search of becoming the youngest ever double world champion, having taken Hamilton’s record of youngest world champion last season.

But now the 26-year-old has refuted what has been published. Writing on his Twitter page, Hamilton insisted that his fans should keep the faith and not believe everything they read in the papers.

“To all our supporters, ignore what you read in the papers today. My team will never give up & I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!!!!” he wrote on the social networking site.

“Bring on Silverstone, your support will make a world of difference to us. I’m going to the factory now to do all I can with our team. Lewis”

Hamilton won his home Grand Prix on his way to the title back in 2008, and finished runner up to Mark Webber last year.
