Back In The Day: Classic Interviews
With time to collect thoughts and take a breath between the Monaco Grand Prix and the upcoming Canada race, formula1fancast is here to take you on a walk down memory lane of a different kind.
There is no finer example of action off-the-track overshadowing the racing on it than the last race in Monte Carlo.
Lewis Hamilton’s “Ali G” outburst sent spectators in to a twist more than anything they saw on the tight street circuit.
Nor is there a finer sound than that of a formula 1 professional dropping the façade of a stony-faced bore to reveal their true opinions.
So sit back and relax, and watch the composed, level headed drivers and even commentators show they are human in these classic interviews.
Webber hides it so well
Not so much the biggest meltdown in formula 1 history, but certainly the most awkward as Sebastian Vettel sits unsure what to say or do as Mark Webber slams his glass on the table after a short but bitter answer.
When Mark Webber’s front wing was handed over to team-mate Sebastian Vettel for the 2010 British Grand Prix, allegations of favouritism were levelled at Red Bull. See how Webber felt about the incident. Hint: he’s not happy.
Murray Walker is in the commentary box…but it’s not him who makes a mistake?!?!
Not so much an interview but definitely worth a look – It’s not just the drivers who can let their emotions get the better of them. While it is delightful to hear the nasal tones of Murray Walker commentating on the 1989 Grand Prix, it is even more delightful to here James Hunt give his rather frank opinion on turbo-boosted cars. The second-long pause before changing the subject after Hunt’s views is pure comedy gold. You are still a hero, Murray.
It’s a bit nippy out here
Who said sexism was dead, eh? David Coulthard shows just why he had a reputation as the playboy of formula 1 when suggests he would treat the pit lane limiter like a part of interviewer Louise Goodman anatomy.
Mark Blundell and Jim Rosenthal almost die laughing in the background, while Rosenthal describes his borderline pervert comment as “fantastic”. That’s what we like to see, Jim, good stuff.

Will you two give it a rest!
It’s those two at it again, yep you guessed it, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber. It’s 2007 and the pair have had a coming together in Fuji where Vettel has just rear-ended Webber. Cue the sportsman-like sitting on the fence and giving little away from Webber. Maybe not.
