Feature: Talking a Good Game
As ever Formula 1 Fancast is here to bring you the best remarks from the Shanghai International circuit as the F1 bandwagon pulls up at the Chinese Grand Prix. As Red Bull continue to run their generous mission to stop anyone else wasting all their energy in climbing to the top of the podium, who is running their mouth instead of running after them?
Hamilton plays footsie with Red Bull
L
ewis Hamilton, speaking on March 24th: “This (McLaren) is where my heart and mind are. I’m not thinking about going elsewhere, I don’t have my people (his new management team) going elsewhere.”
Lewis Hamilton, speaking on April 14th: “I have got only a short period in Formula One and I want to be competitive, I want to win championships. If you’re in a good enough place and you’re happy then there’s no need to go anywhere. But loyalty has its limits.”
The 2008 World Champion shows just why he is known for his single-mindedness.
Anyone seen a chassis laying around anywhere?
Renault will continue to insist that they will hold off from introducing their new chassis until the Turkish Grand Prix for more logical reasons. But we all know the truth.
“With the logistics issue it was too complicated (to bring the chassis to China), and we have enough small updates to try for the Friday practice.” Head honcho Eric Boulier said today.
So, nothing to do with the sight of Vitaly Petrov launching his way into the stratosphere last week or Nick Heidfeld admirable attempt to add a rallying stage to the Shanghai circuit in Friday practice? Speaking of which….
Heidfeld believes he can compete with Vettel and Hamilton and win the championship!
“It was just my mistake. These things unfortunately can happen, I think a lot of other people also went off a bit and had spins. Unfortunately I destroyed two wings, it it shows it isn’t easy today but it is not meant to be an excuse. I just f***** up!”
Ah, maybe not then.
Alonso towing the party line, whatever that is
When Ferrari is involved, it is difficult to know if you are coming or going, something not particularly useful in motorsport.
After launching a bid to claim the record for most confusing prognosis in an interview earlier in the week, claiming, sometimes in the same sentence, that Ferrari were both title challengers and back marker nancys, Fernando Alonso has decided to come clean.
“I don’t expect much to change from what we saw in Malaysia and Australia….At the moment we are not capable of fighting for the win, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be trying.” He said after practice today.
What’s that team-mate Felipe Massa? You believe the “situation has improved” from the first two races?
Answers on a postcard please.
I am 21, I swear…
Adrian Sutil came across as the ageing actress desperately trying to compete with a younger model for the leading role when he discussed Force India team-mate Paul di Resta on Friday. Nervously tearing apart a napkin and on the verge of tears he shrilled:
“I am not here to compete against drivers that are not able to do a straight line. I need the best competitors. So I am happy if there is a new team-mate.”
He’s happy, apparently. Who knew the secret to happiness was to be outdone by a colleague who has all of two F1 races worth of experience under his belt?
The Chinese Grand Prix takes place on the 15th, 16th and 17th April. For all of the build-up, latest news and reaction stay right here on Formula 1 FanCast.
