Only the weather can save 11 teams from Red Bull humiliation
Heading into this weekends Malaysian Grand Prix, Red Bull clearly have the edge over the rest of the field. But can they keep it going in the heat and humidity of Malaysia?
Having seen their performance in Australia and their performance in Malaysia last year, I really wouldn’t bet against them securing a 1-2 finish.
“I’m fairly sure Sebastian Vettel will be feeling quietly confident. What could the young German possibly have to worry about?”
But as we’ve seen so many times in the past, the Sepang circuit can throw up so many variables, the main one being the weather. When it rains in Malaysia, it properly rains!
Regardless, Red Bull should still feel confident about dominating this weekend.
Despite the obvious speed of the car, Mark Webber failed to impress at his home race and finished a long way off his all-conquering team-mate Sebastian Vettel. However the Australian is confident that all these problems have been fixed heading into this weekends race.
Ahead of this weekend’s race, he said:”There were a few issues we found post-race which certainly did not help the situation. We will do a better job this weekend, get more out of the car and hang out at the front like we normally have been. I am not going to make a meal of what happened in Melbourne, so let’s talk about Malaysia.”
So what of his team-mate? Well I’m fairly sure Sebastian Vettel will be feeling quietly confident. What could the young German possibly have to worry about?
Complete domination in Melbourne has done his ever-growing reputation no harm whatsoever and many feel he will just walk away with this years World Championship.
As he goes into this weekends race looking for his 4th straight victory, Damon Hill believes Vettel will find it a lot harder than most people are currently expecting.
The 1996 World champion said: “Everybody else will just follow and catch up, so I’m sure the gap will close and it will be more like last season with a handful of guys in the frame well beyond the halfway stage.”
“I don’t think it is going to be a walkover for Sebastian. The first race is usually just a marker. People will catch up and it definitely won’t be plain sailing for Red Bull all the way through the season.”
A 1-2 finish in 2010 won’t help the confidence of McLaren, Ferrari and the rest of the pack and one of the only things that can save the other 22 drivers from complete humiliation once again is the weather.
Prediction – Vettel 1st, Webber 2nd
