It’s win or bust for Red Bull in Abu Dhabi

So after 18 draining races, 8 long months and more excitement than you can shake a stick at, it all comes down to this; 90 minutes in .

For and , the Formula One World Championship is within their grasp and all they have to do is be the quickest. Sounds easy doesn’t it?! The fact of the matter is this; Red Bull have the quickest car so one of these two drivers SHOULD win the title this weekend.

However, as we’ve seen on so many different occasions this year, what the Red Bulls should do and what they actually do are two completely separate entities.

The small matter of 15 points separate the top 3 drivers in the Championship with Lewis Hamilton still having an outside chance at the title 24 points back. Having already tied up the Constructors Championship last weekend, Red Bull have got that winning feeling and who would bet against them getting one of their drivers on the top step this weekend? But, by the same token, who would bet against them contributing to their own downfall?

Let me be honest for a second and I think you’ll agree with me when I say that it would be a travesty if a Red Bull driver didn’t win the title this season. They have had by far the quickest car at all but 2 or 3 tracks and on raw speed alone, they would have had it all wrapped up by now.

BUT, I cast your mind back to Turkey and that infamous collision between Webber and Vettel. We all knew it was big, we all knew that it would have ramifications within the team, but who knew it would actually cost one of them the Drivers Championship. If the drivers secured those points in Turkey, would not be in the title picture right now and Lewis Hamilton would’ve lost it 2 races ago! One simple collision, one potentially huge penalty for Red Bull as a team.

Now, focussing on each drivers individually, who do I think will win the 2010 World Championship?

Mark Webber clearly has the consistency to be at the highest level in this sport, but does he have the raw speed required? Some would argue that he clearly does as he is in this position in the first place. My argument is that if it’s a race on raw speed between the two Red Bull team mates, I would put my money on Vettel every time. But the Australian has done a fantastic job this season and is the peoples choice to win the title. My heart wants Webber to win this Championship so much.

Sebastian Vettel undoubtedly has the raw speed to compete at the highest level, but does he have the composure to win the Championship this season? Someone with the reputation of a ‘crash kid’ doesn’t necessarily deserve to win the title but he finds himself in this position for a reason. Just when he looks as though he’s out of the Championship hunt, he pulls out a stunning performance to haul himself back in again. If one of the Red Bull drivers is to win the Championship, my head would say Sebastian Vettel has slightly more about him when it comes to the crunch.

But what do the drivers themselves think about their chances? Well Mark Webber is playing the psychological game and claims that Fernando Alonso is the favourite.

“Fernando is in the best position but I am looking forward to it. I’ll initially be disappointed if it doesn’t happen but there have still been some positives this year.”

Sounds very downbeat and almost like he know’s he’s not going to win it. Come on Mark, give us some passion!

Finally, a few words from team boss .

“We are going to give it everything we can and see how it pans out. Our target is a one-two and they know they need both need to finish but we must not underestimate our opponents.”

So what do I think will happen? Well having followed this team all season, I can safely say that I have no idea what’s going to happen! But if I’m painfully honest, I think Fernando Alonso will just pip both Red Bulls to the title. I think Vettel will win the race and Webber will finish 2nd but Alonso will finish 3rd and secure the 2010 Drivers Championship.

Prediction – Vettel 1st, Webber 2nd, Alonso 3rd

Therefore Alonso winning the title and both Red Bull drivers finishing on the same points total.
