Speculation surrounding Force India’s line-up
The Italian Grand Prix was a weekend I’m sure everyone associated with Force India will want to forget.
The team were unable to repeat their success at Monza in 2009 and both Vitantonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil came home in 12th and 16th.
It was a disappointing weekend but hopefully the team can bounce back at Singapore this weekend.
Closest Rivals
Force India are now 11 points clear of seventh placed Williams in the Constructors after both Nico Hulkenburg and Rubens Barrichello finished in the points in Italy.
The target for the Silverstone based team is to consolidate 6th place and stay ahead of Williams and Sauber. Personally I don’t think Force India will catch Renault or Mercedes in the Constructors but that’s not to say they can’t compete with them on the track.
Williams certainly have momentum and it’s up to Force India to start picking up points and stay in front of their rivals.
With Pedro de la Rosa having been replaced by Nick Heidfeld at Sauber, there is bound to be an air of confidence in the Sauber camp that they can overhaul Williams and possibly Force India.
Starting this weekend at Singapore, the Force India revival has to get underway and scoring points will do them the world of good.
Speculation
In the lead up to the Singapore Grand Prix there has been growing speculation about Adrian Sutil’s future.
The German is out of contract at the end of the season and Renault and Mercedes have been linked with him. Sutil has emerged as the leading contender to replace Michael Schumacher if the seven times World Champion leaves Mercedes.
I just hope that the speculation does not affect Adrian’s performance on the track. Sutil has done remarkably well for Force India this season and has been in the points consistently.
I suppose it is a good thing in one sense that Adrian has been linked with other teams but I really hope Sutil does stay at Force India. If Force India give Sutil a competitive car next year then there is no reason why he can’t challenge the big boys on a regular basis.
Luck
Tonio Liuzzi now has five make or break races which will determine if he has a future at Force India.
The Italian was very unlucky at his home Grand Prix and was only able to do one lap after his car lost drive in qualifying. Liuzzi made a decent start in the race but could not get past Sebastian Buemi and Rubens Barrichello for the final points scoring position.
Had Tonio qualified higher up the grid, then I’m certain that he would have finished in the Top 10. It just was not Force India’s weekend.
If Vitantonio wants to be in Formula One next season, then he really does have to start scoring points quickly. Otherwise Paul di Resta may be given a race seat for next season.
I’m confident that Force India will finish 6th in the Constructors but the team have to score points consistently from now till the end of the season. It is crucial that a team like Force India consolidate 6th place.
A big weekend coming up for Adrian, Tonio and the team! Let’s just hope they can deliver and score some points this weekend.
Keep the Faith! May the Force be with Force India!
