Worrying times at Force India
As all the Formula One teams earn a well deserved holiday, I’m sure Force India in particular will be relieved that the summer break has come now.
After two disappointing weekends on the trot, at least the team have until the Belgian Grand Prix to think about what went wrong in Germany and Hungary.
Both Williams and Sauber have made huge improvements and have closed the gap to Force India which I’m sure will be a concern. Renault also seem to be pulling away but there is still a long way to go this season and anything can happen.
Disappointment
Since I was in India for two weeks, I missed the German and Hungarian Grand Prix’s but it appeared to be that Force India for some reason struggled.
Had the Renault lollipop man not released Robert Kubica into Adrian Sutil’s path at the Hungarian Grand Prix, then Adrian might well have finished in the points.
Williams and Sauber’s recent form is not the only concern for Force India. Qualifying has not exactly gone to plan either. Adrian and Vitantonio Liuzzi have failed to make it into Q3 since the Canadian Grand Prix and this is another thing that the team must improve on.
Everyone associated with Force India including myself are bound to be worried with the way the team have performed in the last two Grand Prix’s. However their recent performances could prove to be a blessing in disguise as well as a wake up call ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.
Sutil’s future
There has also been speculation about Sutil’s future at Force India with midfield rivals Renault keen to land the German. To be honest I find this hard to believe and why would Renault want to part with Vitaly Petrov who I feel has done a solid job for the team.
Robert Kubica has already signed a contract with Eric Boullier’s team for next season. Personally I would be very surprised if Adrian did leave Force India because I believe next season could be the year that the team challenge for podiums on a regular basis.
Adrian has done a very good job for the team this season in my opinion and I also feel there is more to come from the former Spyker driver.
Liuzzi
Tonio Liuzzi has failed to finish in the points since the Canadian Grand Prix and he does need to have a strong weekend in Belgium.
Liuzzi’s qualifying form this season has not been great even though he qualified a career best 6th in Canada. Tonio has been on 12 points now for some time and he will be looking to add to his points tally in the next Grand Prix.
I have said this so often this season and I’m going to say it again. Liuzzi must improve his qualifying form to at least give himself a chance to finish in the points on race day.
Vitantonio for sure is a quick driver but for the majority of this season he has been outperformed by his team-mate. The ex Toro Rosso driver will want to put this right come the end of the season starting at Belgium.
Belgium
If last year’s Belgian Grand Prix is anything to go by then Force India could be in for a strong weekend. Who would have predicted Giancarlo Fisichella would be on pole?
The Spa-Francorchamps track should suit the VJM03 car and hopefully it will be the weekend that turns Force India’s season around.
It’s fair to say that the last two Grand Prix’s have been disappointing but Force India will see Belgium as a golden opportunity to bounce back and get back to scoring points.
Fingers crossed Force India can have a strong end to the 2010 season and who knows challenge for a podium before the end of the season.
For everyone who is associated with Force India: ‘Keep The Faith!’ and ‘Believe!’
