Michael Schumacher eyes eighth title

Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher remains confident that he will be able to mount a challenge for an eighth Formula One crown in the near future, despite a disappointing return to the sport this season.
The 41-year-old German has amassed a mere 38 points for Mercedes so far this season, being short of the pace needed to challenge for race wins and the championship.
However, an upbeat Schumacher told the official Formula One website: "It was not a mistake, because I enjoy what I'm doing and because I believe in being able to reach my goal – to win the title.
"I have to accept that it will take time. Of course we all in the team believed that we would be more competitive this season. Unfortunately that's not the case."
F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has also given his backing to Schumacher, who has been outperformed by team-mate Nico Rosberg for most of the campaign.
He added: "When people say that Nico is faster than Michael, I tell them Nico still has to prove himself. Not so Michael. For Nico, fourth places are still important – not for Michael.
"Only winning is what counts for him. Whether he finishes fourth or 14th doesn't really matter for him. If Michael were driving a Red Bull, I would put my money on him."

If a monkey was driving a Red Bull, I’d put my money on that too!
Schumacher’s saving face as he thought he’d be up there this year. Brawn was good last year but the Mercedes this year has suffered because of the focus to get Button to the title.
Unfortunately, I feel Mercedes will be competitive in 2011, but Rosberg doesn’t have anything to prove until then.
I do completely agree with Craig. I think every driver on the F1 grid could win in a RBR. I do also agree that Nico Rosberg is an excellent driver and he proved himself already enough (just look at the stats). In terms of Schumacher: he certainly is/was a great driver (altough my opinion is that the late Ayrton Senna is still the greatest of all times), but Schumis time is probably over.
