Virgin not just aiming to beat their rivals, but smash them!

It’s one of the shortest turn arounds on the Formula One calendar, as teams have less than a week to move on to Hungary, but this will favour Virgin Racing as sooner the next Grand Prix comes, the better.

In Germany the team were delighted to regain their title as the best of the new teams as finished ahead of both Hispania and Lotus.

Now they hope to carry this momentum into this weekend’s race at the Hungaroring, but there are a few issues they have to over come first.

had a torrid time in Germany; he did not set a qualifying time and had to retire on Sunday due to a broken rear wishbone as reliability problems continue to haunt him for a second consecutive race. Surely his luck will change, hopefully sooner rather than later for the young Brazilian.

But we still have to remember that he is a rookie, who hasn’t done too bad considering he is driving with a new team in F1. He has had the same number of finishes as Timo and he has the team’s best finish when he was 14th at Malaysia.

Glock has finished in his last three Grand Prix and he looks to make it four at a circuit he has enjoyed success at before. In 2008 with Toyota, he had his best finish in F1 as he finished second, behind his now Lotus rival Heikki Kovalainen.

They will once again continue their battle this weekend; the only difference is that this time it will be at the back of the grid.

The Hungaroring is a challenging circuit, even though it is one of the shortest on the calendar. It’s a circuit which isn’t used that much so expect it to be quite dirty on Friday for first practice.

The surface is smooth and there are no high lateral forces so overheating is not expected to be too much of an issue if the tyres are managed well. Finding the maximum traction through the last corner is very important as it enables a good top speed on the short straight, leading into the first corner, where there is the main overtaking opportunity on the circuit.

This should suit the Virgin team where they aim to finish ahead of their rivals once again. Timo is driving well and so is his younger team-mate, but unfortunately for him he just hasn’t been having any luck.

Hopefully this will change on Sunday where the team looks to build on from Germany as they aim to not just beat their rivals, but smash them and get both cars ahead of Lotus and Hispania.

This will then truly crown them as ‘the best of the rest’ in the battle against the other new teams.
