Red Bull squabbles helping McLaren

Another exciting race in the Formula 1 season happened this weekend at for the British Grand Prix. It looked like it was going to be a Red Bull lockout with both their drivers starting on the front row, though the team weren’t going to let them have it easy.

At the start of the race got a fantastic start which took him straight past Fernando Alonso and to almost level with the Red Bull. Sebastian Vettels right rear tyre caught Hamilton’s front wing resulting in the young German getting a puncture. had a fantastic opening lap to his home Grand Prix passing six cars to move him into eighth.

The leaders and Lewis Hamilton quickly managed to pull away from the other drivers as if they where driving in a different class. Button made good use of his soft tyres staying out long enough to jump Michael Schumacher and Rubens Baricello. He then also profited from Robert Kubica’s Renault having a technical problem and Fernando Alonso’s hard drive through penalty, resulting in Button jumping up to fourth place.

Hamilton had no answer for Webber’s faster car, but he managed to pull away from third place man Nico Rosberg. Button spend the second half of the race following Rosbergs Mercedes but wasn’t able to pass him because he had to manage his fuel level.

Both McLaren drivers will be very happy with this result, Hamilton breaking the Red Bull dominance, and a marvellous drive by Jenson to move up from 14th to fourth was outstanding.

This result means that Hamilton extends his lead at the top of the Championship by 12 points to Jenson Button who is currently in second place. Red Bull have closed the gap in the Constructors by a point so they now trial McLaren by 29 points. The next race is Germany, hopefully after that race the Brits will still be one – two in the Championship with McLaren hopefully still leading the Constructors Championship too.
