Red Bull ‘Hungary’ for success
Following a distinctly mediocre race in Germany, Red Bull Racing will be hoping to bounce back and challenge the Ferrari’s as the Formula One band-wagon rolls into Hungary.
Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber never really looked like taking the fight to the Scuderia at the Hockenheim circuit. With their new found speed and Fernando Alonso’s love of the Hungaroring, Ferrari will surely be extremely confident of extending the gap between themselves and the rest of the field. But as we’ve seen so many times this season, you cannot count Red Bull out of the equation. When the chips are down, the team come out fighting and this weekend will be no different.
The team are expected to be quick on this track which throws up different challenges to that of Hockenheim. Unlike Germany, their are very few straights for the cars to show their straight-line speed, which suits Red Bull. The team has been infamous this season for having one of the slowest straight-line speeds in the field so this track should suit them.
And despite winning 4 of the last 5 races on this track, McLaren are not expected to make much of an impression on Ferrari and Red Bull.
As for recent form goes, Red Bull have had a rather standard previous 2 years. In 2008, Webber and Coulthard came home 9th and 11th and last year, Webber improved to 3rd whilst Vettel retired after 29 laps with a suspension problem after qualifying 2nd on the grid. 2nd and 3rd on the grid last year will give the team confidence that they can compete competitively this season.
With no issue between the drivers in Germany, the team finally look to have resolved the issue that has dogged them for recent months. It remains to be seen if they can keep the peace if Webber and Vettel come into close competition.
After his disappointing performance in Germany, Mark Webber has been vocal of his hunger for improvement this weekend.
”I wasn’t in the main fight [at Hockenheim], but I’ll be back. ‘It’s competitive at the front … so we’re looking forward to the next race.”
This has to be the hardest prediction for me this season. On one hand, I expect the team to be quick and I expect Webber to bounce back, but on the other hand, I cannot discount the speed of the Ferrari’s and the recent success of McLaren in Hungary.
Prediction – Vettel 2nd, Webber 4th
