Home Sweet Home for Force India!
The British Grand Prix will see Force India return to their home track this weekend.
The Silverstone-based team currently lie sixth in the Constructors Championship with 43 points. I’m sure everyone connected with Force India will want to see both drivers finish in the points to cap off a decent weekend for the team.
Is this possible? It sure is.
With new upgrades scheduled for the British GP, both Adrian and Tonio must fancy their chances of having a positive weekend and picking up points. With this being Force India’s home race, Liuzzi and Sutil will be even more determined to do well.
Last time out in Valencia, Adrian finished the race in a superb sixth place with a little bit of help from the safety car! Can the German make it six consecutive finishes in the points? You wouldn’t bet against it.
Race by race this season, Sutil has done exceptionally well after a shaky start. I have to say I have been very impressed with him and feel as if we are seeing a more ‘mature’ driver.
If he continues his recent fine form then we might possibly see Adrian on the podium at least once before the end of the season. Again I would not be surprised if this did happen.
It’s fair to say Tonio did have a frustrating weekend in Valencia but I’m sure he wasn’t the only driver who felt he could have got more out of the weekend. Just ask Ferrari.
Liuzzi’s race was literally ruined in the pit lane when he had to queue behind his team-mate and lost positions after being delayed in traffic. But that’s racing.
The former Toro Rosso driver is bound to have forgotten what happened in the last Grand Prix and will be looking to do well at the team’s home race. Tonio told the Force India website he cannot wait for the British Grand Prix.
“I’m really looking forward to the next race. I’ve looked at the new section and it might actually be even more suited to the characteristics of our car.
“I think we can be as good there as we were in Valencia, but hopefully without the qualifying problems we had. We will be aiming for the top ten again.”
Liuzzi added that he wants to reward the team’s hard work with a Top 10 finish.
“I really want to put on a good show in front of the factory to give them a reward for the work they’ve done and the trust, belief and support they have shown me.” [Source: www.forceindiaf1.com]
Sutil will be looking to finish in the points for the sixth race on the trot and the ex-Spyker driver is feeling confident ahead of the race at Silverstone.
“As we saw last year, every update we put on – whether large or small – does move us forward so I think it will put us in a similar position to Valencia, top ten, higher if we can.
“We’ve also got the SRW working really well now too so the combination of the new parts and the extra top speed makes me feel quite confident going into this race.”
Adrian also said that Force India’s home race will give him an extra incentive to do well.
“Everyone is working so hard for the results it would be perfect to get a good finish in front of our ‘home’ crowd.
“There’s a lot of history there for the team as well, it’s where we shakedown our cars at the start of the year, where we have tested so many times, and getting some points would be a fantastic feeling.” [Source: www.forceindiaf1.com]
As we reach the half way stage of the 2010 season, Force India have done very well and both drivers have been picking up points regularly which is great to see.
Looking ahead to the British Grand Prix, I am feeling optimistic that both Liuzzi and Sutil can finish in the points and put in a positive showing in front of their home crowd.
If both drivers are to stand chance of finishing in the points, then it is vital that they get into Q3 or end up in the top end of Q2. I’m sure Tonio does not want a repeat of what happened at the European Grand Prix.
Personally I feel that if things go well at Silverstone, then the team could well be in for a decent second half of the 2010 season. With Spa-Francorchamps and Monza to come, Force India have every right to feel confident they can do a repeat of what they did last season.
Bring on the good times at Force India!
