Canada provides Hispania with chance of a shock
Despite a good showing in Turkey rumours have been circulating about the future of Bruno Senna, with whispers of test driver Sakon Yamamoto taking over from the Brazilian.
Colin Kolles though says that he’s satisfied with the performances of both drivers.
“Karun and Bruno are very talented young drivers who developed well in the first races. Bruno had quite a good qualifying and race in Istanbul, Karun a good race in Monaco. I am confident and looking forward to Bruno and Karun doing a good job in the coming races which will improve the overall performance of the team.”
However the team arrive in Montreal with increased optimism off the back of their most competitive showing of the season so far in Turkey.
With Canada being traditionally a car breaker, Hispania could come closer to a points finish at the Giles Villeneuve circuit than they have at any other race so far this season.
This is though if the Spanish team can sort out their own reliability problems.
They have still not managed to get both cars home yet this season and Canada is going to prove a stern test for the fragile cars. But Senna is hopeful that both he and Karun Chandhok can go the distance.
“The track is a mixture of low-speed corners and long straights on which top speeds are very high and very challenging for the drivers. I hope that this low downforce nature helps us and that both cars could pass the finish line at the end of the race.”
Team principal Colin Kolles is also confident the team can maintain their form from Istanbul Park.
“We expect a similar performance if not better. I think the car characteristics will fit better to circuits like Canada and Valencia. We should get closer.”
Although it is still highly unlikely either driver will be able to get too close to the points, this is Canada and you can never be quite sure what might happen.
