What, No Technological Advances?

Once again failed to deliver in the run up to Sunday’s Grand Prix, following disappointing sessions on Friday and Saturday.

Despite some impressive performances on race day, the young duo of Jaime Agluersuari and Sebastian have found themselves on the backfoot, and must start delivering for the entire weekend if they’re to make an impression on a regular basis.

For , a fairytale ending on his return to Spain is looking increasingly unlikely, considering he’s failed to get above fourteenth all weekend, and will line up in Catalunya languishing in 16th position, just one place behind Buemi in 15th.

In the three weeks since the Chinese GP in Shanghai, the technological advances that Franz Toth’s team have overlooked have been making the headlines, so it’s no surprise that the young duo struggled. The noises coming from Toro Rosso were that they were aiming for Q3 this weekend, but you can’t make fine food, with stale ingredients.

Speaking of the weekend so far, Alguersuari said:

“We have to be happy with this position, as we knew some of the other teams would have upgrades for this race and we had to be realistic in terms of what we could achieve. This is a long season and we know we too will get upgrades at some point”

Meanwhile, Buemi was less vocal about the upgrades on the car (or lack thereof), instead blasting Mercedes GP driver Nico Rosberg who he believed hindered his progress.

“I had a lot of traffic, including one incident with Rosberg on my very last lap.”

What happens tomorrow is to be seen, and anything can happen once the lights go out and the race gets underway, but until there are changes to the STR5, it’s unlikely they will be troubling the scorers frequently.
