Despite claiming a terrific 2nd place in last weekend’s Australian Grand Prix, remains uncertain over a potential repeat in this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.

“It’s clear that the pace of our package is not up there and everybody realised that Australia was our chance, for now”.

“For sure if you put up all cars on pure performance, we are not there. This is quite clear. But races are races, points are the same for each race, so if it was an opportunistic podium or pure pace, it doesn’t matter”.

Indeed the result was an opportunistic one as starting from 9th on the grid Kubica made his way into 2nd place after a series of incidents ahead of him including the first corner collision between Button and Alonso, as well as the retirement of Sebastian Vettel.

Sustained pressure from Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa was also not enough to overcome the Pole as he preserved his tyres enough to claim the well earned 2nd place. Kubica does admit however they are only fighting with the mid field cars rather than the front runners at this current stage:

“I think we are not just a bit off, the gap is quite big. Fortunately we are in a position to be in front of the kind of second group, where it’s Williams and Force India”.

Although the scene of his first podium in 2008, the Kuala Lumpur racetrack has not being a kind track to Kubica citing one result in 18th whilst getting a DNF in the other.

As for , the Kuala Lumpar track is one he’s familiar with from his GP2 days and a finish will be at the fore front of his mind having yet to finish a race so far this season.

“I’ve raced here before in GP2 and won races, so it’s a circuit where I go well, even though it’s not an easy track. It’s a tough place in a GP2 car so it will be even more challenging in my F1 car”.

“I really hope I can finish the race, which has to be my target because it’s important for me to get more miles in the car and experience a full race distance. Robert’s result in Melbourne has shown the car has potential and hopefully I can score my first points soon.”

As in last year’s race the threat of a monsoon could once again make an appearance and provide just as much thrill as the Australian Grand Prix if not another unexpected podium for the Renault team.
