A case of now or never for Adrian Sutil?
Adrian Sutil is one of five Germans on the starting grid this year. Throughout his career Sutil has been driving an underperforming car which he has been on the threshold of delivering big results for the small team. This year Force India has their best car they’ve ever had in Formula 1 and they need the 26 year-old German to step up and deliver for the team.
Sutil is one of those drivers which seem to be on the cusp of scoring points in every race, this is a very good achievement given the last cars Force India have had. However there is one thing that seems to be stopping Sutil from scoring much more points. He seems very accident prone, if there’s a collision on the track its more than likely that Sutil will have some involvement.
This year Sutil has been much more consistent with his performance especially in qualifying where he’s managed to get into the third session at every single race, starting tenth three times and even managing to qualify fourth in Malaysia. However he’s only managed to score points in one race this season, and that was at the Sepang circuit where he achieved a very solid fifth place.
The German is currently in joint ninth place with veteran driver and fellow German Michael Schumacher. Sutil has scored two points more than his team mate Antonio Liuzzi, Adrian will definitely consider himself the number one driver in the Force India team, which is probably true however it remains to be seen whether the pressure of leading the team will get to him.
One thing that Sutil needs to work on is changing his consistent qualifying performances into points. He has a very good car underneath him and he should be looking to score points at every grand prix. It just remains to be seen if he can keep the car on the road, if he can then he will be in for his best season in Formula 1 by quite some way. If he can’t deliver then soon Force India will have to start looking for other options instead.

You are spot on with Sutil needing to convert his qualifying performances into points finishes. If he can finish in the points regularly from now till the end of the season then he could be in for a decent 2010 season.
