Sauber not up to scratch
The new partnership of Kamui Kobayashi and Pedro De La Rosa looked steady after the first day’s practice at the Bahrain GP.
The attacking force of the Japanese driver was visible to all after he recorded the 11th quickest lap in session two after a poor first session by his standards.
Team-mate De La Rosa also had a mixed session on the first day of the 2010 season as he finished a place above Kobayashi in both of the sessions, 17th and 10th respectively.
Both drivers recorded a lot of laps in session two, which could be the teams way of building them up to race day. The BMW team look to have more in the tank as both drivers improved in session two, where most teams tried to simulate race conditions, with the car being on the track at the same time of Sunday’s race, as well as filling up the car with fuel.
Day two was as expected for both drivers as they were trying to find the pace ahead of qualifying but couldn’t keep up with the main title threats, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari especially were staking their claim during Practice 3.
Qualifying:
Kumui Kobayashi and Pedro De La Rosa were below par in today’s qualifying for the Bahrain GP. After both BMW Sauber drivers scraped through Q1 it was inevitable that the pace wasn’t up to standards for the drivers.
Kobayashi finished a lowly 16th, and De La Rosa looked impressive in sector one but couldn’t keep up with the big boys pace, finishing in P14. The two drivers will hope that having a choice of tyres before the race may work to their advantage as they push for points on the first weekend.
