More disappointment for Virgin

Both Virgin drivers performed better, but once again failed to finish at the Australian Grand Prix, making them the only team not to complete a race this season.

almost managed the whole distance, but then the rear wheel suspension quit leaving him just 17 laps short of the chequered flag. Team-mate also improved completing 26 laps until hydraulic problems ended his day.

But when Karun Chandhok’s Hispania car crossed the finish line, it left Virgin Racing being officially the worst team in Formula One and with the next race only a week away, they don’t look like they will finish any time soon.

This just reinforced people’s fears that the car simple isn’t reliable enough and with the week’s events including requests to fit a larger fuel tank, it hasn’t been the best start for the new team.

Rookie Di Grassi once again failed to out perform Glock, qualifying a place further down wasn’t really a shock, neither was his early exit from the race.

Glock started in 21st place and he would have been disappointed not to get ahead of the Lotus boys. Despite this, the plucky German rose to the challenge on race day and managed to complete 41 laps, 23 more than in Bahrain.

Engine performance was low throughout the race to ensure they had enough fuel to last the distance, but they didn’t get a chance to do so as problems with the cars came back to haut them.

The new revised car, with larger fuel tank, is not set to be ready until the Spanish Grand Prix in May so until then expect slow and steady racing from the team.

The only glimpse of success from this weekend came in the early stages of the race. Di Grassi was near the rear of the pack and he had the silver arrow of Michael Schumacher behind him. He managed to cruise back the young Brazilian, but went a little wide, allowing the new boy to overtake the seven-time world champion. Something he will never forget.

So another disappointing weekend with still no race finish to show for all the hard work they have put in. Malaysia is less than a week away and we know they will once again be at the back of the pack; hopes are they can finally get off the mark and complete a Formula One Grand Prix.
