Battle of the Brits!
When Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button go at each other in the 2010 season there are certainly going to be fireworks. It also gives potential for another large fall out between two competitive drivers in Formula 1.
Hamilton is already familiar with such fall outs as he experienced in 2007 with Fernando Alonso. Both drivers being in a competitive car which left the team divided.
So what’s in store when Hamilton meets Button? Both will be aiming to be crowned the best Brit in Formula 1. Jenson comes into his new team as the current World Champion and his new team mate Lewis was the 2008 World Champion.
McLaren is a team which is currently built around Lewis Hamilton as he’s been at the team since he was 13 but Button will be looking to change this. Both Fernando Alonso and Heikki Kovalainen found it difficult to settle at McLaren with both drivers complaining that the team was geared around Lewis Hamilton.
I think that when the two meet, at least to start with Lewis will have the advantage because he’s already settled in the team and for the last few seasons the car will have been made around him because he’s been the leading performer at the team for the last three seasons.
However for the first time in F1 Hamilton won’t be working with his father Anthony. I think this is a real surprise because throughout Formula 1 his father has been there and also working his way through the lower Formulae Anthony Hamilton has always been there overseeing his sons decisions. Lewis as well this year has a new engineer so he has some settling in to do this year as well.
Jenson of course has a lot more adapting to do than his young team mate. A new team, a new setup and a new engineer, just a few things for Jenson to get use to. I think all these things will affect Button at the start of the year which will give Hamilton the advantage.
As the season goes on however Jenson will definitely come back into because of his smooth driving style. This will be a massive advantage to Button because of the ban on refuelling it will be key to manage the tyres on the car when it’s full of petrol.
Both McLaren drivers will need to share information about the car to help keep them both as competitive as possible. This year the Brits will be challenging till the end to make it three successive years that a British driver has won the World Championship. This is all dependant on the team working together and not having another Hamilton Alonso style blow out.

I think it will be a brilliant challenge for both Hamilton and Button challenging each other with both wanting to come out on top. Hopefully will make them both push harder and then get better results. I just hope they can work together.
